Why Standby Flights Are Not As Good As You Presume They Are

By Neville Pettersson

Buying airline deals for less than $100 isn't really that

difficult if you understand how to work the system. Lots of

consumers believe that standby flights are generally the top

deals, however, this isn't the case .

It's possible you might have read somewhere that the airlines

offer loads of unsold tickets at the last second for bargain

rates? Allow me to banish this delusion for you right now: this

just isn't correct. Airlines just do not run this way. The

majority of the time you are likely to not ever get a low priced

flight ticket if you wait until the last-minute. You may even

have a problem getting hold of any seats whatsoever if you do.

Airlines structure their fare behavior on advance scheduling

representation. Any time you grab a flight in advance, you will

most likely get the best deal. The more you wait, generally the

more expensive your airfare will be (bear in mind, business

people with a big budget routinely travel on short notice). When

they’re short of their anticipated advanced scheduling levels,

they'll claw back the rate of price increase on the flights. You

won’t find a more expensive flight if you wait longer, but you

will still almost certainly find a more costly ticket than what

you could have been able to get if you'd bought it previously.

Let's say you do need a last-minute airfare because it is an

urgent situation, or perhaps you couldn't book in time or

whatever? Even though it is true that buying a plane ticket

sooner is better than later, this is not to say that they never

offer discounted tickets at the last minute to fill up any

unsold seats. The price reduction which you receive, though, is

at the very best around the same as if you'd bought your ticket

earlier. However if it does go down to the last-minute, you can

often receive last minute special deals to your e-mail if you

subscribed for the airlines mailing list. There's loads of such

bargains sent on  a daily basis, and for the most part you are

only allowed to have access to them by signing up to their

particular news letter. Don't call in and attempt to pick up a

ticket - they’ll only assume that you are a business owner in

need of a last minute airline ticket, and you know exactly what

happens then.

Additionally, a simpler and much better method to get a good

last minute deal is by checking out travel booking sites which

cater to last minute vacationers. The top one around is

lastminute.com - a travel website that solely concentrates on

the best last-minute bargains.

Here is one of my best flight tricks! Instead of buying your

flight using cash, why not purchase them with reward miles? I

have stumbled on a tricky tactic for you to acquire these travel

miles without ever having to board an aeroplane or buying a

ticket. You can easily do it directly on craigs list.

Nevertheless, the task is not as easy as you might think.

Selling prices for miles are so cheap on craigslist and ebay

that airline companies have forbidden them to be sold! However,

many sellers do this regardless. To be able to comply with the

rules, however, sellers have to advertise them differently.

Examine the listing explanations thoroughly. People who sell

flyer miles or reward miles quite often say inside the listing

description that all they’re really providing is a white

envelope that will be sent by mail to you. But, they will also

state that as a gift, you’ll also receive a specific quantity of

flyer miles or rewards. Craigs list traders are not allowed to

state that they are selling miles, however, they're permitted to

offer them as a gift with a different item. This is the reason

why craigslist and ebay traders of flyer miles and rewards

typically claim that the core object they’re offering is just a

plain envelope that will be mailed to you.
